Neural Disorders Research Interest Group Overview
The ZDMS Neural Disorders Research Interest Group includes investigators working on any neural disorder. Neural disorders are those that affect the central or peripheral nervous system and may be caused by genetic or environmental factors.
Neurodevelopmental disorders occur due to abnormalities arising in the embryo and include Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Down Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
Neurological diseases including Alzheimers, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.
Nervous system injury, such as spinal cord lesion or stroke.

Aims
The goals of the Neural Disorders group are to share approaches, communicate discoveries, discuss experimental challenges and explore mechanisms to advance the field of neural disorders using the zebrafish model. The group will consider needs of the community and will disseminate technical expertise. The group will communicate use and outcomes of zebrafish approaches to clinicians, patients/families and to investigators working in complementary fields. Relevant funding opportunities will be disseminated.
