Toxicology Research Interest Group

Toxicology Research Interest Group Overview

For decades zebrafish have been used as a model species to observe the adverse effects of xenobiotics on animal growth and development. Powerful advances in microscopy and genetic engineering are allowing scientists to explore the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which environmental chemicals and pharmaceuticals influence embryonic development.

Aims

The ZDMS Toxicology Research Interest Group seeks to enhance the use of zebrafish as an animal model to understand how environmental endocrine disruptors, contaminants and pharmaceuticals influence human development. We bring together investigators from diverse fields to:

  • Develop molecular and genetic tools to improve zebrafish as a model for toxicologic exposure
  • Build ties to the broader toxicology community through meetings and joint research initiatives across species
  • Work with government and industry to foster support for zebrafish toxicology research
